The readers
Textbooks are assigned reading: one adoption decision puts the same book in front of a whole classroom, semester after semester. A translated edition opens institutional adoptions, course lists, and markets where the subject is taught in the local language — the same content, working in a second education system.
The layout
Textbooks carry the densest layout in publishing: two-column flows, tables, figures, equations, worked examples, callout boxes, and footnote apparatus, often all on one page. Every element must keep its position — the rebuilt page has to remain assignable and citable, not merely readable.
The craft
Terminology consistency is the craft problem: each discipline term is pinned in the glossary and applied identically across chapters, captions, and exercises. The register stays formal and instructional, units and notation follow the target market's conventions, and the Editorial review keeps explanations natural for students.
